Mauvette's Caribbean Cuisine

A very quaint little take-out restaurant that serves up deliciously authentic Caribbean cuisine. It was our first time visiting and the staff couldn't have been any more kind or gracious to us. We all had jerk chicken with sauce, rice, and peas/veggies. The chicken was tender and very spicy, in a very good way. However, if you're sensitive to spiciness, then be sure to take precautions and be ready for some heat. The rice, peas, and veggies were delectable as well. The sauce on the side gave a much needed reprieve to the heat and complimented the dish very well. We will definitely be going back in the future.

Wonderful in every way! Today we had the jerk chicken with pineapple sauce, fried chicken with bastard sauce, a spinach and cheese patty, mango guava cheesecake, and a peanut butter chocolate dessert. Everything was awesome, just like the person checking us out promised. We were not familiar with the cuisine/menu, but the person working up front talked us through what everything was and helped us navigate a spice level we could tolerate. Thank you! The cute little outside tables were a lovely spot for a date.

I travel all across Ohio for work, and I happen to stumble across this gem today. The food was outstanding. Full stop. I got the salmon patty sandwich fully trimmed with spinach and arugula with sauces that blew the top of my head off. Highly friendly staff and colorful, refreshing atmosphere. I can not recommend enough!

We learned a couple years ago that we really like Caribbean food. We moved to Athens last year, and while we really enjoy the town, the food options lean heavier to Mexican and Asian. Mauvette's is the first Caribbean option we've run across. The flavors are bright and satisfying, from the basic "patties" that are full of flavor to the more fleshed out palette of the sandwiches (we have not yet had the entree dishes, but we hope to soon). Phenomenal flavors and the people working there are great, too). It tells me a lot that the people in the same shipping center also frequent and support this restaurant. Those who are sensitive to spice should at least be aware, but don't stay away. One in my household is very sensitive to spice, and while eating their sandwich still said it was worth it for the great flavor.

Amazing amazing food! Why haven't I found this gem earlier! Mauvette is an amazing person and her food is as good as her jolly personality! We tried oxtail and jerk chicken with rice and vegetables and tried a sample of mashed potatoes too! Flavourful and delicious! Definitely going back and definitely recommending to all my friends!

From the start of walking through the door I knew this place was going to be good. I decided to go with the Oxtail, and it was soooo good! I ate everything on my plate and the gravy was to die for. I love going to different places to eat and this was one of the best tasting restaurants I've ever been to. The host was so nice and helpful, and Mauvette was nice as well, and she can COOK! I will make this place a regular every time I am in the Area!

The Jerk Chicken was very delicious. The spice level was perfect. I also tried a few paddies and they were great as well. Mauvette's also has some nice sodas that you can't really get anywhere else. Great food and the people were very nice as well!

Mauvette's food is stellar! She did some catering for our event and the menu included spicy salmon scampi, lollipop lamb chops, the best chicken I've ever had, fried plantains and coconut-veggie rice. Oh, and salad for 30. All the flavors were complimentary to each other and yet each dish was a local trip to Jamaica. Run there right now!
